‪Key West is the place to be

‪If you're looking for immortality

‪Stay on the road, follow the highway sign

‪Key West is fine and fair

‪If you lost your mind, you will find it there

‪Key West is on the horizon line

Key West is missing…

English Version

How are you supposed to start a concert review when you've seen Bob Dylan for the first time in your life and you're not a Dylanologist in the classical sense. For me, the music socialization has taken a different course and there have been few touch points with Dylan in the last decades. I've tried again and again and of course I also appreciate his incredibly great songs that have gone down in music history, but it never really became the music of my heart. I've always said it's because of the voice, this chronic nasality. The Dylan concert showed me what an important role this songwriter plays. He is, so to speak, the personified American songbook. Even though he is known for it, and he shows this evening in Düsseldorf, that he does not meet expectations and plays the highlights from his catalog. On the contrary, he is odd, smutty, reserved and says nothing more than necessary. No encore, of course. He makes sure that no mobile phone can be used and no photo can be taken, no film gets on the net and uses a black hoodie to hide himself. He pulls the hood low over his face and does not change that in the following hour and a half. On the other hand, the former Philips Hall remains constantly brightly lit, possibly out of consideration for the very old audience, the seats were unfortunately not heated. Of course he comes with an incredibly great band, every single person a fantastic musician. Tony Garnier – bassist, arranger and in Dylan's band since 1989. You can feel the connection, he also reaches for the double bass. Somehow supernaturally good and standing for total clarity:Joel Paterson is the lead guitarist and at the same time pleasantly reserved, serving the cause. If there were Michelin stars for music... He gives the evening the elegance and the starlights. Mike Seal his cool counter-part. Brimming with nonchalance, more quiet than loud, on the drums Anton Fig. No arrangement gets to wobble. Dylan really embraced me three years ago with "Rough & roudy ways", a wonderful album that once again highlights Dylan's narrative strength. I immediately had a favourite piece: "Key West"

Key West is the place to be

If you're looking for immortality

Stay on the road, follow the highway sign

Key West is fine and fair

If you lost your mind, you will find it there

Key West is on the horizon line

The album brought me closer and on this tour there are also some pieces performed, which makes me very happy and satisfied. Key West is missing... Contrary to my expectations, Dylan's voice is surprisingly clear and firm, so I read completely different things from him in the run-up to concerts. "Every grain of sand" is an opulent and beautiful conclusion, the included Encore, so to speak. I would come back, Bob Dylan.
